Lent & the Solace of the Desert

Our world would like us to believe that to be “without” is to be lacking, a sort of deficiency. To go into the desert is to be called into greater, deeper communion with God without the daily distractions or accoutrements we feel we can’t live without.
Even our practice of Lent can be a mentality of “can’ts” and “shoulds” instead of an invitation to reflect on what no longer serves us and what leads us to a deeper relationship with God.
